Workshop

I ask the room “Have I lifted
this line from someone’s poem?”

‘The narrow avenues
of nakedness.’ I can’t remember

where I heard it or if
I wrote it myself. I hardly ever

say ‘avenues.’ I say words
like ‘streets.’ I do not wish

to offend; I will remove
the line. Unless you maybe

see something there tethering
your work to mine. It can be

the tie that binds
us together for all time.”
